Fleming and Hutchins defeat Nestor and Miryni

Colin and Ross produced their finest performance of the season to defeat the worlds number 2 pair of Max Miryni and Daniel Nestor in the 2nd round of the US Open.

Fleming and Hutchins ousted the Belarusian-Canadian tandem 6-3, 7-5, “It was a close match. They could have broken us in the first game so it could have gone a completely different way,” Colin said.

“Even when they broke us in the second set, we fought hard and got back in it, staying together as a team. We made some big returns at the right time and made some good calls on our serves.”

The unseeded Brits advance to play 13th-seeded Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez. While Fleming and Hutchins have knocked out the highest seeded team in their half of the draw, the two are approaching the tournament one match at a time. “To beat a team like Mirnyi-Nestor at the US Open is just something amazing. It’s something we’ll never forget but we have to realize we’re just in the third round now and we’ve got to try and keep our form going,” said Fleming.

“If we play like we did today, we have a chance to win all of our matches.”
