Fleming and Hutchins bow out in the quarter finals

After receiving a quarter final walkover against Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, Colin and Ross make their second successive Grand Slam quarter final appearance against the experienced pairing of Bopanna and Qureshi.

In a dramatic match it was the opponents who struck the first blow, breaking at 5-5 and then holding, to take the first set 7-5.  Colin and Ross came out of the blocks quickly in the 2nd set with an early break and won the second set comfortably 6-2.  Again in the third set the British pair got an early break and then had three match points to win the match.  However their opponents saved the match points and then broke to lead 6-5 15-30 before the rain came down halting their contest against fifth seeds.

Needing to secure a service break when play resumed to force a final-set tie-break, they were unable to do so.

The India-Pakistan partnership won all three points on Friday afternoon to book their passage into the semi-finals.

Fleming and Hutchins will now turn their attention to Great Britain’s Davis Cup promotion play-off against Hungary which takes place in Glasgow next weekend.

Fleming said on Twitter: “A strong tourny for Rosco and I. We’ll take it like men, get over it and move on. Lots of positives to take. Bring on Hungary!”
