In the 2nd round of the Australian Open Colin and Ross produced a clinical display to beat the Russian pairing of Alex Bogomolov Jnr and Igor Kunitsyn, and move into the 3rd round of the Australian Open for the first time in their careers. The first set flew by as the British pair won it 6-0. There was a little bit of resistance at the start of the second set but the British pair clinched it 6-3 holding serve throughout.
This sets up an exciting meeting against the top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan in the last 16. Looking forward to the match Colin said: “We played them in Sydney in the semis two weeks ago and lost to them in straight sets, but we were 4-2 up in the first set,We got on top of them so we know we could trouble them.”
“I think Sydney was their 76th title, so their success has been phenomenal. They’re a pretty big deal in America, pretty high-profile, and I think they deserve it because they bring a real charisma and a real energy to doubles. The way they play is exciting and they’re a team we look up to.”
Before the match on Sunday Colin is also in mixed doubles action on Saturday where he pairs up with American Liezel Huber who is the number 1 ranked female doubles player in the world.
