Colin and Ross bowed out of the Australian Open after a 3rd round defeat to the World number one pair Bob and Mike Bryan. However they put up a brave display and pushed the Americans all the way. With just one break in the first set the Bryan’s took it 6-4, with the British pair struggling to make in roads into their opponents serve. However Colin and Ross got out of the blocks quickly in the second, immediately holding then breaking their opponents serve. This pattern followed, and the British pair took the second set 6-0, inflicting a ‘love set’ on to the Americans for the first time since 2009.
The Bryan’s battled back in the 3rd set and managed to get a break. Colin and Ross tried everything to get back into the set but the Americans held strong finally winning the 3rd set 6-3. Afterwards Colin said “We’ve shown we have a level that can get us there, but it’s up to us to go and do it, week in, week out, and not become nearly men. Today, it was positive that we played that great set but we have to look at what happened and why.”
Colin continues in the mixed doubles where he and partner Liezel Huber beat Lipsky and Uhlirova 6-3 6-2 to set up a quarter final match against all Indian pair Bhupathi and Mirza.
