Colin’s story

Colin began playing tennis at a young age with his family having grown up close to his local club in Linlithgow, Scotland. As a junior he competed in National events throughout the UK. In 2001, at the age of 17, Colin left school to attend The University of Stirling on a tennis scholarship. Having achieved some promising results in some professional level tournaments, the university offered him the opportunity to take time out from his studies to pursue full-time professional tennis from 2004-2006. Having reached rankings highs of 359 in singles and 184 in doubles during this time, Colin decided to return to university in late 2006 to complete his honours degree. After graduating in the summer of 2007 Colin took up a position on the Graduate Program of the utility company Scottish Power, working there for 10 months. In the summer of 2008, aged 24, Colin decided to return to professional tennis, initially playing both singles and doubles. In late 2009, having again reached his career high singles ranking of 359, Colin took the decision to focus primarily on playing doubles and competing on the ATP World Tour. Since then, Colin has reached a career high doubles ranking of 17 in September 2013, winning 7 ATP titles with a variety of partners and has been a regular member of the British Davis Cup Team. He is proud to have won a gold medal for Scotland at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, winning the mixed doubles partnering Jocelyn Rae. Colin also became an Olympian when he competed at the London 2012 Games alongside good friend Ross Hutchins.
