Colin and Ross in Davis Cup Action

Great Britain put in a battling display against a strong Belgian team but came up short, handing Leon Smith his first defeat as Captain.  After the first day both Dan Evans and Josh Goodall got off to good starts taking the opening sets, but the Belgians Rochus and Darcis proved too strong over the course of the match and came through both singles in 4 sets.

This left it up to Colin and Ross to keep the tie alive on the Saturday.  The British pair faced  Ruben Bemelmans and David Goffin, an upcoming young Belgian pair.  After losing the first set Colin and Ross came back to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 .

The British pair, who are currently ranked 10th in the ATP Team Rankings, produced a spirited display and had to recover from a set down against their less experienced doubles opponents to win in a match lasting over three hours.

After the match Fleming spoke highly of the Belgian pair; “They were playing very well and we did not find our feet very quickly.”

Also speaking after the match, Captain Leon Smith praised Colin and Ross on their efforts; “They are brilliant to have on the team and they are the most fantastic guys to be around. As players they have so much more to come and this team will just grow and grow.”

On the Sunday the Belgians continued their dominance at singles winning the remaining singles to win the match 4-1.
